Vero International (Bingham Farms, MI) has introduced integrated 5-axismachining capabilities for its VISI series of CAD/CAM software. Thecompany’s VISI software offers a combination of applications includingfully integrated wire-frame, surface and solid modeling, 2D and 3Dmachining strategies with high-speed routines, and dedicated tooldesign for plastic injection and progressive dies. The addition of5-axis machining complements the company’s existing 2-1/2-axis machining, 2- and4-axis wire EDM, 3D, and high-speed machining CAM together withdedicated design applications for plastic injection tools andprogressive dies.

According to Vero International, the 5-axis capability embedded within VISIwill help manufacturers generate accurate parts within short cycletimes, save money, and reduce risks for errors. Among the features ofthe 5-axis capability is Deep Cavity, a 5-axis toolpath that allows forshorter tools to maintain a consistent and quality surface finish, while offering reduced cutting time. The capability includes 5-axisport machining routines that are said to provide an optimal approach tomanufacturing engine ports such as inlet and exhaust manifolds, whichcan be beneficial for addressing complex issues such as optimizingemissions controls and torque.
The VISI 5-axis capability also offers multi-axis machining ofimpeller/turbine blades. This functionality is improved by the use ofswarf machining together with a tool holder collision control and axislimitation to ensure a high-quality surface. (Swarf milling is used formachining or trimming vacuum-formed or reinforced plastic moldedcomponents.)

Miscellaneous features include Flat Bottom end mills, BallNose, Bull Nose (radii), Conical, Lollypop, and T-slot type tools.Complete collision control for each tool and toolpath is included.

The VISI 5-axis application is available today. For complete details click here.
