My editors don’t know it, but often I’m working on this stuff on a mobile device from some exotic location like a supermarket parking lot. Going mobile has been a great boon for engineers, their companies and their clients. Today’s Check it Out offering adds another good piece of mobility news.

Late last week Autodesk announced the immediate availability of its AutoCAD 360 Pro mobile app for users of Windows 10 devices. For those of you familiar with the AutoCAD 360 Pro mobile app for Android and iOS devices, the new Windows 10 edition is said to be “on par” with those versions. But it has a new capability that is particularly interesting for Window 10 users.

If you’re fuzzy on this, Autodesk AutoCAD 360 is the official AutoCAD drawing and drafting mobile app. The Pro version is included without cost with any AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT subscription. With it you can view, measure edit, markup and create DWG files as well as connect to cloud storage.

The AutoCAD 360 Pro version offers extended features such as drawing, editing, marking up and creating new DWG drawings on your mobile device. Layer management, object properties and blocks are all there as well.

Now, when they say this version supports “Windows 10 devices,” they really mean it. This release of the Windows 10 AutoCAD 360 Pro mobile app adds new support for Microsoft’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP). For end users, UWP support gives you the ability to use the app and all its functionality on any Windows 10 device such as a Surface Pro, tablet or PC. Autodesk says it even supports that snazzy new 84-in. 4K Microsoft Surface Hub display, which includes support for multi-touch and pen input.

To get AutoCAD 360 Pro for Windows 10 without charge, you need to have an Autodesk subscription that includes AutoCAD. Simply download it from the Windows App Store. If you have a maintenance plan or a perpetual license, the annual subscription for the AutoCAD 360 Pro for Windows 10 app is 50 bucks. A free trial is available if you’re a tad Luddite about this mobile technology thing.
