Conisio 6.2 Web Client Functionality Enables Collaborative PLM

GCS Scandinavia(Hägersten, Sweden) last week launched Version 6.2 of Conisio software,a commercial engineering document management system entirely integratedwithin Windows Explorer. The system supports any application running ona Windows-based computer including MCAD programs and all MicrosoftOffice programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Outlook.The software is tightly integrated with the most popular designpackages: SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidEdge, and MicroStation.

Thelatest version includes Web client functionality that connects usersdirectly to the file vault and SQL server over the Internet usingExplorer. In this way, Conisio 6.2 provides live, real-time access tofiles and the ability to work directly with stored data; in contrast toview-only servers that only let users look at PDFs and other displaysof documents. Conisio routines are automatically installed whenaccessing the Web-shared vault without loading software so users canmanage files remotely and readily share information with otherauthorized users.

As with Conisio’s other modes of operation, users work with filesusing Explorer and a set of straightforward commands.  New filesand folders can be added to the file vault simply by dragging anddropping them into the Web client window.  Existing files storedin the vault are managed and updated with commands such as Get, Lock,and Unlock. A secure check-in/check-out system controls versions andrevisions while preventing more than one person at a time frommodifying a particular file.

Workflow functions in Conisio 6.2 enable users at distributed locationsto become active participants in product development, design reviews,engineering change orders, quote approval, and other product-relatedprocesses. Workflow diagrams show paths of documents and relatedinformation including the list of responsible individuals and theiraccess rights (read, modify, approve, etc.). Workers are prompted byautomatic notifications on actions required at specific stages whilemangers are given an overview of a project’s status, showing wherebottlenecks might be developing.
