Siemens Digital Industries Software has released the Simcenter Electromagnetics portfolio (EMAG) for 2022. New features are found in several applications in the portfolio, with the overarching goal of accelerating the ability to model complex electromagnetic design problems with minimal time and effort. 

Updates are included in three specific applications: Simcenter SPEED; Simcenter Motorsolve; and Simcenter MAGNET. Other changes affect all Simcenter modules. 

With the updated DXF overlay in Simcenter SPEED, the user can choose to automatically see updates to previously set parameters. Siemens says this happens without the need for DXF reloads. The SPEED user is also free to create a facsimile of their motor design from a template. 

There is a new Step-Skew option for rotor topologies in Simcenter Motorsolve. Siemens says this allows users to more accurately model possible manufacturing options, taking full account of skew. This new method reportedly simulates a more accurate cogging torque. 

Other changes in Motorsolve allow average motor design time to decrease by up to 37%. Siemens says the faster design time is due to improved software response time. 

A new preview mode for FEA (finite element analysis) calibration in Simcenter SPEED, according to Siemens, enables users to view the model and make adjustments before submitting the job to the solver.

Simcenter MAGNET’s Reduced Order Models (ROM) for Linear Actuators, can now model the effects of Eddy Currents.

It is now possible in Simcenter Motorsolve, similar to Simcenter SPEED, to complete an EMAG data exchange for CFD (computational fluid dynamics) thermal studies, using improved data exchange technology. To improve this process, Siemens says it made changes across the EMAG application portfolio. Temperature-dependent data exchange for materials is now possible, which helps when integrating with Simcenter SPEED and Simcenter MAGNET. New coil-side phase winding descriptions in Simcenter SPEED PC-IMD, according to Siemens, now allow the user to provide finer detail for simulation similar to Simcenter SPEED PC-BDC. 

There are also updates that improve a motor design’s portability into Simcenter STAR-CCM+. New end winding exports in Simcenter Motorsolve make it possible to export motor designs to Simcenter MAGNET 3D and Simcenter STAR-CCM+.
