Fabrisonic LLC, a manufacturer specializing in metal 3D printing applications, announces the SonicLayer 1200 machine. The SonicLayer 1200 features ultrasonic additive manufacturing (UAM) technology. The SonicLayer 1200 features a build envelop of 10x10x10-in. (X,Y,Z). The UAM process developed by Fabrisonic combines a room-temperature metal deposition process with traditional computer numerical control milling.
“Although UAM has been utilized for years in high impact markets such as aerospace and defense, the costs associated with the large scale Fabrisonic systems has been a barrier to entry for some companies and universities,” comments Mark Norfolk, president & CEO. “The SonicLayer® 1200 is both powerful and affordable.”
The SonicLayer 1200 features the same hybrid additive and subtractive process with all internal and external surfaces having a CNC finish. The machine allows arrays of smooth internal channels and is driven by the G-Code. Just like large UAM machines, the machine also feature solid-state bonds at low temperatures (<2,500 F), which allows welding dissimilar metals and embedding of electronics (sensors) into fully dense metal parts.
Fabrisonic LLC uses a 3D metal printing process that harnesses sound waves to merge layers of metal foil in a process that requires no melting. Building in the solid-state enables Fabrisonic to join dissimilar metals to create new materials, have parts with complex internal geometry and embed sensors or electronics into fully dense metal parts that can be protected from the harsh environments being assessed.
