GKN Teams with PostNord AB; Sets Up Partnership with EOS

The collaboration between GKN and PostNord is focused on logistics for 3D-printed parts.

The companies are focused on logistics for 3D-printed parts. Collaboration set to reduce time to market by up to 48 hours; partnership with EOS reduces part production time by 70%.

GKN Powder Metallurgy, innovation development partner of the manufacturing industry, has a partnership with PostNord AB, supplier of communication and logistic solutions to, from and within the Nordic region. The partnership empowers global manufacturers to optimize their part supply chain with streamlined logistics for where they need to go in the Nordic region.

“We’re joining forces with PostNord AB because we see an opportunity to improve the manufacturing supply chain, particularly in the Nordic region,” says Peter Oberparleiter, CEO of GKN Powder Metallurgy. “Collaborating with PostNord AB bridges the logistics gap we see in the marketplace and ensures that printed parts get to manufacturers efficiently and on time. That is the first step before establishing additive manufacturing linked to the GKN Powder Metallurgy print network.”

“Metal 3D printing offers tangible benefits to manufacturers who implement the technology, with significant bottom-line benefits,” says Ylva Ekborn, CEO PostNord Strålfors Group. “This collaboration only scratches the surface of what’s possible as manufacturers explore new ways to capitalize on advancements in technology and new logistics strategies to gain a competitive edge. Furthermore, this shows PostNord can be a supplier of 3D production in a wide range of materials, from plastic to metal, throughout the Nordic region.”

In other news, GKN Powder Metallurgy announces a strategic partnership with EOS. Together, the companies have designed a new, high-productivity process for laser metal 3D printing which has reduced production time by 70% and overall cost by up to 50%.

“We’re thinking differently about what’s possible in manufacturing; metal 3D printing and rapid prototyping have become a formidable part of our business,” said Peter Oberparleiter, CEO of GKN Powder Metallurgy. “This collaboration makes laser metal 3D printing a viable long-term solution for manufacturers across the board that require fast delivery turnaround and could benefit from the high degree of design freedom that comes with laser 3D printing.”

“In order to expand our foot print in the automotive industry, we were looking for a strong partner with a high level of expertise in the field of steels and typical industry grade materials combined with a proven track record of industrializing technologies together with customer applications,” says Dr. Adrian Keppler, CEO at EOS. “We found a perfect partner in GKN Powder Metallurgy. Based on this partnership, our customers will benefit from higher build speeds and lower material costs resulting in significantly optimized cost per part. This is going to lower the entry barrier and will enable completely new application fields.”
