Granta Design Announces Phase IV of Material Data Management Consortium

The collaborative was founded to focus on developing and applying materials information technology that maximizes the value of materials engineering.

Granta Design has started the fourth phase for the Material Data Management Consortium (MDMC), which will focus on “Managing data for maximum impact in material and product research and development.”

The MDMC is a collaborative project focused on developing and applying information technology that maximizes the value of materials engineering. The project has guided Granta Design in developing GRANTA MI, a platform for capturing, managing and controlling corporate materials information.

Current members at the start of Phase IV include Airbus Helicopters, Honeywell Aerospace, GE Aviation and Energy, Lockheed Martin, GKN Aerospace, Northrop Grumman and Boeing. Phase IV is still open to new members.

“Phase IV will continue the MDMC’s exceptional work in identifying best practices and helping each member to build a comprehensive, fully traceable, record of their organization’s materials related data, both experimental and simulation, at all pertinent levels of scale,” said Steven M. Arnold, multiscale and multiphysics modeling technical lead, Structures and Materials Division at NASA Glenn Research Center, and chairman of the MDMC. “This will help them, for example, to obtain accurate predictions of the performance of materials in every location of a component based on a complete material and modeling pedigree.”
