Canon U.S.A. Inc. has launched three new 44-in., high-volume, large-format inkjet printers: The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF850, iPF840 and iPF830. The models, also available as multi-function devices, are designed to bring reliable, affordable and precise printing to medium and large workgroups of CAD and AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) professionals, according to the company. These five-color technical document printers feature 15,360 nozzles that can produce intricate full-color renderings, technical drawings and maps, Canon states.
The imagePROGRAF iPF850 and imagePROGRAF iPF840 deploy a two-roll media system. Additionally, the imagePROGRAF iPF850 features a high-capacity stacker that can hold up to 100 sheets of different sized paper (up to A0). Canon describes the stacker as designed to provide a timesaving and user-friendly experience. The stacker neatly gathers newly printed documents, which helps prevent paper curling and allows users to collect their newly printed documents quickly.
The new printers incorporate several design features intended to help workgroups improve workflow efficiency and save time, says Canon. The two-roll media system used in the imagePROGRAF iPF840 and iPF850 models enables automatic paper switching between rolls, which allows for continuous printing without user intervention. Additionally, the two-roll support feature further enhances output efficiency by simultaneously handling different types and varying widths of paper up to 44 inches. The devices support continuous printing by allowing users to replace the available high-capacity, 700ml ink tanks during print jobs without pausing production.
These new imagePROGRAF printers feature a 320GB hard-disk drive, 384MB of printer RAM, high Chroma magenta ink and Gigabit Ethernet. Print speed is up to 22 seconds for A1 size paper in economy mode. Maximum print resolution is 2400 x 1200 dpi. Canon reports that acoustic noise levels in operation are 60 dB or less for the imagePROGRAF iPF850 and 52 dB or less for the imagePROGRAF iPF840 and imagePROGRAF iPF830 devices. In standby mode, noise levels are 35 dB or less.
For scan-to-print capabilities, each model is also available as a multi-function device. Designated the MFP M40 after the imagePROGRAF model name, these units are complete scan-to-print, file and share solutions, according to the company. They can scan documents up to 2mm thick. An MFP imagePROGRAF model includes an M40 scanner, SmartWorks MFP software, a computer, touchscreen monitor and MFP stand.
The new imagePROGRAF large-format printers come with Canon’s PosterArtist Lite and Direct Print & Share cloud portal software. The latter, says Canon, includes a shortcut feature for batch printing and allows files to be dragged and dropped into hot folders on the desktop. Canon’s PosterArtist Lite provides users with royalty-free templates, backgrounds, clip art and fonts that can be used to create posters, signs and banners. The new imagePROGRAF systems are also compatible with the imagePROGRAF Print Utility app for the Apple iPad 2 or later running iOS 6.1 or newer.
In addition to the Canon software, a number of independent software vendors have made their software compatible with the new imagePROGRAF printers, including CADLinkTechnology Corp., SA International (SAi) and Onyx Graphics, a Canon Group company.
“In today’s business environment, companies require the proper tools to help conserve costs and time without compromising quality,” said Junichi Yoshitake, senior vice president and general manager, of Business Imaging Solutions Group, Canon U.S.A Inc. in a press statement. “With an upgraded system to help improve productivity and ink tanks designed for better efficiency, these new imagePROGRAF large-format printers can help professionals to quickly and cost-effectively achieve precise technical documents.”
The imagePROGRAF iPF850, iPF840 and iPF830 printers run with 32/64-bit Windows and Windows Server operating systems as well as Macintosh OS X 10.6.8-10.10. Canon reports that the MSRP (manufacturer’s suggested retail price) for the iPF850, iPF840 and iPF830 printers are $7,995, $6,495 and $5,495, respectively. The MSRP for the scan-to-print MFP M40 versions are $11,995, $10,495 and $9,495, respectively. The new imagePROGRAF iPF850, iPF840 and iPF830 printers are shipping now.
