PTC says that Mathcad Prime 2.0’s approach to live symbolic calculation allows you to use general mathematical principles before committing to a formula.

PTC (Needham, MA) recently released Mathcad Prime 2.0, the latest version of its Mathcad engineering calculation software, saying that the solution adds new calculation features and advanced capabilities to the software’s easy-to-learn,  easy-to-use interface first introduced in Mathcad Prime 1.0. Enhancements reported in Mathcad Prime 2.0 are broadly concentrated in the areas of integration with Microsoft Excel, symbolic algebra,  3D plots, “collapsible areas,” and in computational performance. Additionally, Mathcad Prime 2.0 integrates with other PTC products,  such as its Creo Parametric 3D CAD and Windchill PLM (product lifecycle management) software, which is said to enable increased productivity, improved process efficiency, and better collaboration between individuals and teams.

Mathcad Prime 2.0 provides 3D graphing and symbolic algebra capabilities within a document-centric environment. Its embedded Microsoft Excel component allows bidirectional integration with Mathcad worksheet content. This seamless integration, reports PTC, enables users to access and use data from existing spreadsheets while eliminating the need to convert data when introducing Mathcad. In the area of symbolic algebra, Mathcad Prime automates the process of explicit derivation to manipulate complex equations, which reduces errors and improves efficiency.

New 3D Plots enable engineers to easily manipulate, analyze, and visualize complex data for more complete insight and better documentation, says PTC. Collapsible areas, the company explains, allow users to manage content better and have more control over their workspace. It does so by enabling users to place out of view—collapse—details that are not essential at the moment. This is said to improve productivity and collaboration as well as streamline document presentation. Computational improvements in Mathcad Prime 2.0 include faster performance, 64-bit support, a new optimization solver, and multi-threading.
