Canon Solutions America Inc. has introduced a series of new media options that extend the functionality of its popular Océ ColorWave 500 printing system, a large-format black-and-white and color printing, copying and scanning system with cloud connectivity. The new media offerings increase the number of media options available for generating large-format CAD, GIS, and color graphics applications from 12 to 26.

The new offerings include a 27-lb. Premiere Xtreme (XTRM) bond, a 4-mm clear polyester film (4CFI) and a 2-mm clear polyester film with low-tack adhesive (CCLG). XTRM comprises two quality grades of bond with a PET (polyethylene terephthalate) sheet applied in between for durability or tear resistance. XTRM is available in widths ranging from 24 in. to 42 in. by 200 ft.

An optically clear 4-mm 100% polyester film, 4CFI is designed for planning, construction and architecture users. Dimensionally stable to hold fine registration marks and color mark-ups for overlaying an existing setup of plans, it is available in 24- and 36-in. widths and 150-ft. lengths.

The 2-mm CCLG clear film with low tack adhesive is an optically clear option with a heated toner coating for reliable toner adhesion. A special media profile allows you to add extra toner for denser window cling images for the final application. CCLG is available in 30-in. and 100-ft. lengths.

In addition to the new media options, the Océ ColorWave 500 printing system can work with uncoated papers, uncoated Tyvek, self-adhesive papers, self-adhesive coated vinyls, blue back papers, polypropylene films, polyester films, light blocks films, soft banner, instant dry photo paper and backlit paper. It also has four online media rolls that accommodate large volumes and sets, multiple document sizes and different media types. Documents emerge on top dry, cut-to-size, stacked and collated.

The Océ ColorWave 500 printing system, a compact, eco-friendly unit, measures at 6.89x2.95x5.18 ft. (WxDxH). It uses Océ’s TonerPearls toner, which ensures no dust or odors and minimal waste disposal, according to Canon Solutions America. It also has certified de-inking properties.

The Océ ColorWave 500 printing system features a 10.4-in. touchscreen that provides walk-up users access to Océ workflow software applications for submitting print jobs, managing print queues as well as printing, copying and scanning. The touchscreen has a tablet-like user interface from which you can obtain live document previews, zoom in on details, check a document’s position and organize files in your personal inbox.

The Océ ColorWave 500 printing system also automatically selects print modes, positions images and determines the media roll that best fits a given job. It automatically detects a document’s width as well as compensates for wrinkles and light colors during copying or scanning operations.

The Océ ColorWave 500 printing system supports such client operating systems as Microsoft Windows and Macintosh OS/X. Miscellaneous features include 4GB of memory, a 3.0 GHz Intel E8400 Core 2 Duo processor, dual 500GB hard disk drives and Ethernet networking. System specifications include 225 D-size prints/hour (high-speed mode) of monochrome CAD documents or 212 D-size prints/hour (high-speed mode) color CAD documents and 600x600 dpi (dots per inch) true print resolution.

Cloud connectivity features include unlimited user and or administrator-authenticated cloud support via WebDAV and/or a third-party provider such as Amazon, DropBox, Google Drive or Microsoft SharePoint. Users can print from and scan to the cloud application of their choice. With a mobile application such as Océ Mobile WebTools and Océ Publisher Mobile, the Océ ColorWave 500 printing system can be accessed and used with a smartphone or tablet. Security features include E-shredding.
