The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM), a subsidiary of Manufacturing Technology Deployment Group, Inc., has promoted current Executive Director of Advanced Manufacturing Jim Fisher to vice president and chief operating officer, effective immediately. As NCDMM VP & COO, Fisher will report to NCDMM CEO Gary Fleegle.

“I cannot think of a better candidate to fill the VP and COO position than Jim,” says NCDMM CEO Gary Fleegle. “Throughout his tenure at NCDDM, Jim has proven himself to be a competent, effective, and dedicated leader. He has been instrumental in many of our most successful projects and programs and has established strong business relationships with our defense partners and Alliance Partner network. As NCDMM’s next COO, Jim will continue to excel in these areas while further driving our operational success.”

Fisher has more than 24 years of engineering experience focused on leading applied research programs and managing teams to address manufacturing-related issues. He was awarded a letter of commendation from the Office of Naval Research for advancing manufacturing enhancements to a military vehicle.

Fisher also led a team that developed an Aiming Device for EOD robots that received the 2011 Gold Edison Award for Best New Product of the Year. In addition, he received a U.S. Patent for a novel tool to perform variable penetration welding using the friction stir welding process.

“I want to thank Gary and the MTDG executive leadership team for this opportunity,” says Fisher. “I am excited about NCDMM’s recent expansion as part of the MTDG family of companies and our continued growth as an organization. NCDMM is a recognized leader within the defense manufacturing industry and its supply chain. We will continue to serve this sector, meeting and exceeding the distinct challenges these customers face through the delivery of innovative and collaborative advanced manufacturing solutions.”

Previously, Fisher served as the executive director of Advanced Manufacturing. Prior to that, he served as the director of Operations for more than 6 years, managing programs, providing strategic oversight, and driving process standardization throughout NCDMM’s operations. Fisher joined the NCDMM in 2011 as a senior program manager.

Before joining the NCDMM, Fisher was the director of Engineering at API Technologies, Corp. He also worked at EWI as a team manager and started his career as a project manager at Concurrent Technologies Corporation.

Fisher holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering with a minor in Mathematics and a M.S. in Manufacturing Systems Engineering, both degrees from the University of Pittsburgh.
