The National Center for Defense Manufacturing and Machining (NCDMM) announces that Dean L. Bartles, Ph.D., NCDMM president and chief executive officer, was recently named to the National Small Business Association (NSBA) Leadership Council.

NSBA is the nation’s oldest small-business advocacy organization and operates on a nonpartisan basis. Dr. Bartles, a leader in the manufacturing community, joins the NSBA Leadership Council alongside other small business advocates from across the country as they work to promote the interests of small business to policymakers in Washington, D.C.

“I am honored to be named to the NSBA’s Leadership Council,” says Dr. Bartles. “NCDMM manages an extensive Alliance Partner network that includes many small businesses to support our mission of delivering collaborative solutions that enhance U.S. manufacturing and economic competitiveness. Entrepreneurship and small-business ownership are fundamental tenets of the American dream. As a member of the NSBA Leadership Council, I will be able to take the collective message from small businesses to the people that need to hear it most: Congress.”

Dr. Bartles joined NCDMM in May 2019 as president and chief executive officer after serving as a board member since 2010. Prior to joining NCDMM, Dr. Bartles served as the president of the National Tooling and Machining Association and as the director of the John Olson Advanced Manufacturing Center at the University of New Hampshire. He was also the founding executive director of the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute in Chicago. For more than 30 years, Dr. Bartles worked for General Dynamics Corporation setting up and running domestic and global manufacturing operations.
