Gibbs and Associates (Moorpark, CA) has announced a new option for itsGibbsCAM, CNC machine tool programming software that supportssimultaneous 5-axis milling. The new GibbsCAM 5-Axis technology, saysthe company, enables the user to realize such benefits as collisionavoidance, improved surface finish, and reduced tool wear.

The new GibbsCAM 5-Axis option provides users with a complete range of5-axis milling functionality, according to the company. Among thecapabilities it cites are multi-surface 5-axis flowline machining andmulti-surface 5-axis roughing and finishing. The software’s interfaceis said to adapt based on part type strategy and displays only what isneeded to be shown at the given moment.

Operations such as entry/exit, cut-to-cut, and between cut moves aresaid to be under complete user control. Other features of the newGibbsCAM 5-Axis option include surface edge 5-axis swarf cutting(trimming vacuum-formed parts) and advanced gouge checking.
