Optomec Hosts International LENS User Meeting in Austin, TX
Industry leaders and academia collaborate on latest developments in 3D metal printing.

Optomec announced that the company hosted its International LENS User Group Meeting in Austin, TX, earlier this year. The User Group meeting focused on LENS 3D metal printing for production applications, and provided attendees with the latest developments in LENS hybrid 3D printing innovations.
Users/system owners from 13 companies attended the meeting including representatives from industrial, academic and government organizations. Users presented their work on a variety of LENS applications including LENS Hybrid Processing in Additive Manufacturing, In-Process Monitoring and Thermal Modeling of the LENS process, a Case Study on Hybrid LENS Repair for Gear Teeth and more. The LENS User group meeting was held in conjunction with the Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium, an event for all interested in additive manufacturing.
“Expert users participated as well as presented on what they’ve been doing with their LENS systems. Users included members from universities and research centers, as well as various industry manufacturers,” Tom Cobbs, Optomec LENS product manager, says. “All were very open to share what they’ve been doing with LENS technology—from research, to new builds, to repair and remanufacturing. We discussed future collaborations and were happy to receive much user feedback to help Optomec roadmap the next generation of LENS print heads and systems, furthering the development of this exciting AM technology.”
