Data breaches are not just an embarrassment for the NSA or Yahoo IT departments. They can bite you too. Help for securing sensitive technical documents and scanned information is a theme underlying today’s Check it Out offering.

Canon Solutions America recently announced the newest member of its Océ PlotWave family, the Océ PlotWave 550 large-format monochrome printing system. It looks like the Océ PlotWave 450 printer announced in the spring, but, my contact says “the upgrades are on the inside.” Basically that means it incorporates the company’s newest print, scan and copy technologies.

Canon is bullish on printing system security, so also notable is the Océ PlotWave 550 printer’s optional security enhancements. More on those in a minute. First, here’s a quick rundown of some key features.

The Océ PlotWave 550 printer is designed to handle large technical document print jobs for workgroups, shared print/copy/scan rooms and copy shops efficiently. Efficiency comes in many forms. For example, it prints at a maximum speed of 10 D-size/A1 sheets per minute, and goes from sleep mode to first printout in 30 seconds (D-size/A1). Print resolution is 600x1200 dpi. It has this nifty logic that reinforces colors and compensates for wrinkles or folds on originals, which helps you get better copying and scanning results.

It includes software to create, print and manage job submissions. Its Scan Templates software helps you standardize workflows with saved scan settings. There’s a touchscreen interface and one-click USB printing. The Océ PlotWave 550 system cuts, sizes and detects media width automatically, and you can equip its built-in media loading station to handle two to four rolls.

The Océ PlotWave 550 printer is cloud-enabled, circling us back to security. While security is always your responsibility, this printing system is engineered to complement your strategy. Think technologies like e-shredding, IP filtering control and audit logging. Its optional Access Management License controls printer and scanner access with user authentications or a smart card reader.

You can protect data in the system’s hard disk with Disk Encryption License and TPM (Trusted Platform Module), based on Microsoft Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption technology. You can also equip the Océ PlotWave 550 system with a removable hard drive.

It’s safe to say that there’s much more to learn about the Océ PlotWave 550 printer. Hit today’s Check it Out link, watch the short video overview then explore its features and specifications.
