SYCODE (Panaji, India) launched reverse engineering plug-ins for AutoCAD and Rhinoceros (US$250 each). The Point Cloud plug-ins re-construct the geometry of an object from a point cloud which describes it. They can drape a surface over or wrap a mesh around a point cloud. A surface can be draped along one of the six orthogonal directions (top, bottom, front, back, right and left) or auser-specified direction. The plug-ins have the ability to wrap a mesh around a concave or a convex point cloud.
“Reverse engineering is basically reconstructing a solid or a surface from organized or unorganized point cloud data, explains Deelip Menezes, owner of SYCODE.
A trial download of Point Cloud for AutoCAD is available at the SYCODE Web site, as is a trial download of Point Cloud for Rhino.
