SABIC Ships New Thermoplastics

The materials are suited for smart, connected device applications.

SABIC has developed new materials for base station antennas to meet specific performance requirements for smart devices. This suite of THERMOCOMP, the company states, is optimized for transmission conditions from 900MHz to 3GHz and beyond. The portfolio also provides varying combinations of Dk and Df performance.

The materials also offer dimensional stability, low friction, flame resistance and stable Dk performance in a host of climate condition. These plastic are capable of complex geometries and miniaturization

“Because these are thermoplastic materials, they can provide greater design flexibility and higher manufacturing yield than traditional materials such as ceramics or printed circuit boards (PCBs), in addition to meeting specific signal strength or signal range objectives. We found that the industry lacked performance-specific materials, which is why we took on the challenge of providing new options,” says Alan Tsai, director of Consumer Electronics Technology & Innovation, SABIC Innovative Plastics.
