ScanOS Version 3.1.4, large format scanning software from IDEAL (Rockville, MD) adds extra functionality to IDEAL/Contex scanners by letting users create an automatic searchable database for their scanned images. The software has customized indexing, full-screen prescan, and on-the-fly settings.

Version 3.1.4 features an updated GUI, improved contrast control for grayscale scanning, and updated 7.0 PDF read and write. In addition, ScanOS 3.1.4 supports collated printing and offers a high-quality exposure setting to aid in scanning “noisy” drawings. ScanOS supports scan-to-file and scan-to-print simultaneously and a print-tracking database aids accounting.

There is new online user help and a printed PDF manual. IDEAL ScanOS supports Contex Scanners starting with fourth-generation scanners, FireWire and USB, as well as any TWAIN Scanners. It runs on Windows 2000, XP, and 2003.

The list price of ScanOS is $1,295. For more information, visit ideal.com.
