Stratasys Introduces New Fortus Printers, FDM Material

Stratasys, a provider of 3D printing and additive manufacturing solutions, has introduced the Fortus 450mc and Fortus 380mc production systems. The technology, according to the company, is focused on providing improved reliability, speed and accessibility.

The Fortus 450mc can produce layer resolutions from 0.005 in. to 0.013 in., and manufactures parts up to 15% faster than the previous generation. It has a digital touch screen that enables users to make adjustments to print jobs without stopping the printer. There is capacity for two model material and two support material canisters and a build envelope of 16 x 14 x 16 in.

The Fortus 380mc has even temperature distribution in the build chamber and a digital touch screen. It has a 14 x 12 x 12 in. build envelope and offers the same layer resolutions as the 450mc.

Available materials for the Fortus 450mc and 380mc include ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), ASA (acrylonitrile sytrene acrylate), PC, Nylon and ULTEM 9085.

In addition to launching two new 3D production systems, Stratasys has also unveiled a new material. ULTEM 1010 is the latest high-performance thermoplastic for FDM (fused deposition modeling), offering heat resistance, tensile strength and chemical resistant. It is compatible with the Fortus 900mc and ideal for aerospace, automotive, food processing and medical device applications.

“This new generation of 3D printers is aimed to improve the customers’ overall experience,” said Bill Schultz, senior director of FDM products for Stratasys. “Improved system navigation, system maintenance, and system performance builds upon the proven history of the Fortus family of products. Complex geometries now take less time to print with our new systems.”
