The increased focus on sustainability and more environmentally conscious production poses new challenges when it comes to product design and engineering. Companies in a variety of industries are striving to reduce weight, improve fuel efficiency, reduce energy usage and use more sustainable materials. All of these trends have put pressure on engineers to innovate their designs leveraging tools like generative design and 3D printing.

Sustainability metrics are also finding their way into simulation and CAD tools. These companies are also looking for ways to improve their own internal manufacturing processes. Again, simulation plays a role, as will digital twin technology that can help companies reduce their carbon footprint.
