Widely respected RADIOSS technology suite meshing with Altair HyperWorks creates robust, integrated CAE family.

Altair Engineering, Inc., (Troy, MI) has announced that it has enteredinto an agreement to acquire the Mecalog Group (Antony, France), thedeveloper of the RADIOSS family of explicit and implicit FEA (finiteelement analysis) solutions. Specific financial terms of thetransaction will not be disclosed. In a briefing with DE, Mike Kidder,corporate marketing director for Altair, estimated that the sale willbecome final in 4 to 6 weeks upon complete various legal hurdles aresurmounted.

Once the acquisition of Mecalog is completed, the Altair HyperWorkstechnology suite will embrace solver solutions for linear, nonlinear,fluid and fluid structure interaction, structural optimization, andmultibody dynamics applications. According to Altair, initialintegration plans include bringing the RADIOSS products under Altair’sHyperWorks Unit licensing.

Mecalog is a widely recognized as a leading developer of transient,non-linear CAE technology. Its RADIOSS FEA system enables engineers tosimulate mechanical, structural, fluid, and fluid-structure interactionphenomena under quasi static and dynamic events. RADIOSS takes intoaccount the effects of nonlinear materials behavior. RADIOSS has beenused for simulating safety-related performance, other impact events,and such problems as passive safety, stamping, forming, aeroacoustics,and structural wave propagation. Its user base includes such familiarnames as Airbus, Alstom, EADS, Eurocopter, Ferrari, Ford, Honda, Mazda,Nissan, Pininfarina, and Volvo Truck.

Francis Arnaudeau, chief technologist and co-founder of Mecalog, willjoin Altair as managing director of the RADIOSS developmentorganization.  In this role, he will continue to oversee RADIOSSsoftware development and lead the advancement of this technology,according to the announcement.
