Dassault Systemes(DS; Paris, France) has released ABAQUS 6.6, the advanced finiteelement analysis (FEA) program within the SIMULIA product portfolio. With this release, DS says ABAQUS/Standard and ABAQUS/Explicit offernew capabilities in vibration analysis, material failurecharacterization, tire modeling, and computing performance. It alsosignals new tools in ABAQUS/CAE to produce accurate results andcompelling presentations in the program’s model building and resultsvisualization environment.
According to a press release, features in ABAQUS V6.6 include automaticmulti-level substructuring (AMS), an add-on for vibration analysis inABAQUS/Standard that extracts hundreds or thousands of naturalfrequencies in very large linear systems. Benchmarks supplied by DSindicate problems can run from 10 to 25 times faster using AMS comparedto alternative methods. Version 6.6 builds on existing tools forfracture and failure analysis by introducing a new laminate damage andfailure model for layered composites. This capability is designed toenable aerospace manufacturers and others using composite materials tosimulate delamination and ply failure simultaneously. Another featurein ABAQUS 6.6 is its ability to represent the effects of bolt threadswithout creating detailed thread models.
Other features highlighted by the DS press release include analysis ofdetailed tire treads with road interaction in simulations of rollingtires; an integrated adaptive remeshing capability to improve solutionaccuracy; postprocessing enhancements for nonlinear analysis tosynchronize animations with external videos, animate x,y plotsalongside other animations, and combine multiple plot types and optionsin a single viewport display; and parallel performance improvements solarge classes of simulations in both ABAQUS/Standard andABAQUS/Explicit can now be run on distributed memory clusterconfigurations.
