Mentor Graphics Introduces FloEFD for Solid Edge

The offering lets engineers run fluid flow and heat transfer analysis.

Mentor Graphics has introduced a fully embedded CFD (computational fluid dynamics) solution for Siemens’ Solid Edge CAD software. This means users can now incorporate FloEFD frontloading CFD into their product design processes.

According to Mentor Graphics, the FloEFD CFD technology takes the geometry directly from the CAD application, automatically performs the necessary translations and cavity modeling, and generates an optimized mesh before executing analysis.

This integration lets users run 3D fluid flow and heat transfer, is fully embedded into Solid Edge and has a user interface that is automated for real-time feedback, a company press release states. It also includes SmartCell meshing technology for complex 3D models.

“Mentor’s FloEFD frontloading CFD technology full-featured 3D analysis eliminates workflow complexity and meshing overheads compared to other available CFD software,” said Roland Feldhinkel, general manager of Mentor Graphics’ Mechanical Analysis Division. “We believe Solid Edge customers will reap tremendous value in using our FloEFD solution for CAD-centric CFD design and performance optimization, while reducing time and costs to meet their product delivery goals.”
