AVL FIRE v2008 from AVL North America, Inc. (Plymouth, MI) adds functionalities for simulation processes with CFD software for powertrain engineering. FIRE is a complete CFD environment including solver, pre- and postprocessing tools embedded in an intuitive GUI. There is no need to purchase third party tools.

FIRE, tailored to meet the requirements of automotive research and development engineers, allows users to adjust modeling complexity and to integrate the software into their CAx framework. The overall environment and individual components of FIRE enable application to any phase of the development process.

FIRE ESE Aftertreatment lets you create computational grids for exhaust lines including exhaust gas aftertreatment systems — automatically and within seconds. The tool works on parameterized templates delivering high-quality meshes fulfilling any standard defined by porosity and aftertreatment simulation models. Other options include FAME Hexa, FAME Tetra, FAME Engine Plus, and more.

IMPRESS Postprocessing offers discrete colors by default, hard edges, user-defined object properties, and a link to IMPRESS Chart, AVL’s standard 2D postprocessor. The FIRE postprocessor is also available as an offscreen version. It includes an Algebraic Multi-Grid solver, a conjugate heat transfer, grid adaptivity, grid switch, multi-material loop, non-reflecting boundary, Partial Averaged Navier Stokes (PANS), Coupling Lagrangian Mulitphase, and more.
