Siemens Digital Industries Software introduces Solid Edge Value-Based Licensing. The feature is new to Solid Edge 2023.

Value-Based Licensing allows Solid Edge users to purchase bundles of license tokens that can be used to access a variety of Solid Edge add-on products on demand. The company says this gives Solid Edge users “instant access to advanced functionality that can be shared across product development teams on an as-needed basis.”

This flexible licensing option is available through a Solid Edge software-as-a-service subscription. Siemens says it gives instant access to a range of integrated products:

  • Generative Design Pro
  • Point Cloud Visualization
  • Electrical Routing
  • PCB Collaboration
  • Advanced PMI
  • Simulation
  • Solid Edge XpresRoute

“With a flexible token system,” the company says, “users can mix and match add-on products, as needed.”

The company says Value-Based Licensing is a flexible and cost-effective alternative to purchasing any or all of these Solid Edge add-ons. With the token system, these separate services can be used only when needed. It also allows users to mix and match the features they need depending on the needs of the product.

“Design outsourcing work is very dependent on the customer’s situation.” says Kazumasa Hirayama, Section Chief Headquarters Technology Department First Design Section, Sankyo Research and Development. “With the monthly subscription, if the outsourced work increases in the future, then the number of monthly licenses can easily be increased based on the work amount or, alternatively, the licenses can be reduced by the decreased amount. We believe that this flexibility is a great fit for our work.”

Siemens is introducing a new purchasing method for Value-Based Licensing. Currently, tokens are available to be purchased in packs of 25 or 50. For a limited time, Siemens is offering 10% off purchases of annual subscription packs of 25 or 50 tokens. Solid Edge Users may claim a discount here.
