Measurement Computing (Middleboro, MA) has built an affordable DA device to add analog and digital I/O to any PC'sUSB port. Called the PMD-1208LS, the device is a PC-based analog and digital I/O interface for a variety ofdata acquisition applications. It is compatible with the USB 1.1 or 2.0 port onyour notebook, desktop, or rack-mount PC.

Its pricing means every PC-based workstation can be equipped with its DA module,eliminating costly inefficiencies associated with sharing a single unit. It haseight analog input channels, 12-bit resolution, and sample rates to 1.2Ksps (8Kspsfor 4000 samples). It measures only 2.8 x  3.2 x  0.5 inches. The PMD-1208LSincludes ready-to-run software applications including a Strip Chart recorder andData Logger (which directly writes to Excel). The supplied Universal Library softwaredriver for use with Windows-based programming languages includes LabVIEW and SoftWIREinstrument drivers.

A PMD-1024LS (24-bit digital I/O) is also available, as are OEM and custom versions.Price: $99 each for 5-9; $89 each for 10-24; $79 each for 25-99; and $75 eachfor 100 or more.
