Wolfram Research(Champaign, IL) says its new Mathematica CalcCenter 3 has the power ofMathematica and is as easy to use as a calculator. It was derived fromCalculationCenter, but has been upgraded to meet the standards of theMathematica 5 product family.
"Think of Mathematica CalcCenter 3 as Mathematica litewith added easeof use," says Jon McLoone, lead developer of the software. "We'll befocused on migrating users fazed by the full Mathematica, but wantingits trustworthy results and industrial-strength performance."
Because it uses the base technology of the latest version ofMathematica, the new program provides a straightforward upgrade pathfor those who subsequently need Mathematica Professional.
CalcCenter 3 contains a number of new features, including data analysisup to 70 times faster than CalcCenter 2, matching Mathematica 5'sspeed; new-generation numerical solvers for ordinary and partialdifferential equations; support for Mac OS X; support for computationswith exact fractions; and support for vector and array functions innumeric solvers. It also provides flexible import and export of DICOM,PNG, SVG, STDS, DXF, FITS, STL, Matrix Market, and Harwell-Boeing;improved export of XHTML; extended Copy and Paste on Windows for usingtypeset formulas in other applications; streamlined design and userinterface improvements; and more than 50 improvements to quality androbustness.
Workgroups can use Mathematica and Mathematica CalcCenterinterchangeably, swapping notebooks as required. CalcCenter 3 isavailable for Windows and Mac OS X. Price: $595. Network licenses and afull-function, reduced-price student version are also available.
