Ever since buying StorageTek, Sun Microsystems (Santa Clara, CA; sun.com) has grown into an increasingly interesting storage player. Its latest move is a storage appliance that will help communication service providers offer fast, high-capacity, easy-to-search storage that's compliant with European Union data regulations.

The Sun Secure Data Retrieval Server runs on top of Sun Fire X4500 four-way servers, which can be sealed off physically for greater data security.
