Today Hewlett-Packard(HP) introduced its new workstation, the HP xw9300, which is the first of itsworkstations to includeAMD Opteronprocessors able to simultaneously run 32- and 64-bit applications. Theworkstation also includes support for NVIDIA Quadro SLI dual PCIExpress graphics.

The HP xw9300 Workstation is designed for graphics and data intensiveapplications such as those used in the discovery and production of oiland gas resources. According to HP, the processing power of two AMD Opteronprocessors and advanced 3D graphics capabilities of dual PCI Expressallow customers to visualize large data sets with greater accuracy, helping to reduce risk of error and potentially limit increased costsdue to inaccuracies.

"The HP xw9300 Workstation provides a broader choice of workstationproducts for our customers who demand reliable but advancedtechnologies that help increase productivity, lower costs and reducerisks," said Jim Zafarana, vice president and worldwide marketingmanager, Workstation Global Business Unit, HP. "For several months, customers have been asking for the AMD Opteron processor in ourworkstation family, while also calling for increased graphicscapability for engineering design, animation development and scientificexploration. Today, we deliver on these requests with a product thatcan increase their productivity and help make them more competitive."

The NVIDIA nForce Professional chipset enables dual PCIExpress x16 graphic slots that let customers run large models anddisplay complex graphics quickly. The HP xw9300 is the firstworkstation to be certified by NVIDIAto support SLI for NVIDIA Quadro, says HP.
