Mathsoft Engineering and Education, Inc.(Cambridge, MA) has released a new version of Mathcad that promotesinnovation by capturing and reusing knowledge locked in engineeringcalculations. Mathcad 13 provides expanded support for the MathsoftCalculation Management Suite, the enterprise software solution designedto help organizations profit from their quantitative engineeringinformation.

With Mathcad 13, engineers can document and capture their calculations, design intent, analyses, and engineering-critical values while theycreate them. The software delivers a compelling option to cryptic anderror-prone spreadsheets and saves engineers the time and effort ofdeveloping custom applications that can be too complicated for the vastmajority of calculation jobs.

New features include new program debugging capabilities, including theability to insert traces and step through program loops, to enhanceauditing and verification. It includes improved 2D plot graphics withan easy-to-use customization menu for special line types, symbolmarkers, and colors. A new Autosave feature prevents design engineersfrom losing valuable work, and new messages pinpoint mathematicalerrors that design engineers may have otherwise overlooked. For thefirst time it supports non-linear units such as Fahrenheit, centigrade, and decibels, and enables customers to create custom units via aneasy-to-use menu. These features are amplified by significantperformance improvements over prior versions, making design engineersmore productive across all of their calculation activities.

Mathcad 13 includes enhanced math functions, solvers, and IEEE(Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc.) compliantarithmetic operations, giving engineers expanded abilities in areassuch as numerics, optimized curve fitting, and linear algebra. New communication features are included to promote collaboration andinformation sharing. Organizations can now create more polished andprofessional documents with a new and improved spell checker and fullsupport for the latest version of Adobe Acrobat so worksheets can beconverted to the PDF format. Price: $1,195; $325 to $425 for upgrades. It is also available on a volume basis as part of the CalculationManagement Suite
