Laser Design, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN) has announced a CATIA importer forGeomagic Qualify 8 inspection software from Geomagic, Inc. (ResearchTriangle Park, NC). Laser Design's 3D laser scanning systems leverageGeomagic Qualify to speed processes, provide in-depth analysis, andensure repeatability. According to the company, its new file importconverter allows direct importation of R16 CAD geometry from DassaultSystemes CATIA v.4 and CATIA v.5 into Geomagic Qualify 8 SR1. Further,the company says that new importer also improves the overall quality ofthe imported geometry.
Geomagic Qualify serves as a link between CAD and CAM in part byenabling graphical comparisons between CAD models and parts forfirst-article inspection, inline or shop-floor inspection, trendanalysis, 2D and 3D geometric dimensioning, and automated reporting.Said to be easy to use, Geomagic Qualify also generates web-readyreports to speed communication across manufacturing functions.

Laser Design offers a line of general-purpose, automated, portable, andapplication-specific 3D scanning systems including high-accuracy CMMs(coordinate measurement machines). Additionally, Laser Design alsooperates GKS Inspection Services, a service division offering complete3D scanning, modeling, and dimensional measurement services. The GKSInspection Services division uses Geomagic Qualify for inspectionprojects.
