FARO Technologies, Inc. (Lake Mary, FL) has announced that it has developed a Super Mobile Laser Scanner Kit. The kit is designed to complement the FARO Laser Scanner LS so that users can carry the equipment to onsite locations or into remote regions.

"Nearly every application requires a laser scanner to be repositioned in order to get a comprehensive view," says FARO President and CEO Jay Freeland. "The new Super Mobile Kit makes scanning faster and more productive by enabling our customers to take it anywhere — whether they're hiking through forests or rough terrain like in civil engineering, tunnels and mines, forensic scenes, or archaeological excavations."

The FARO Laser Scanner LS is a portable, computerized measurement device that scans, digitally recreates, and records all of an object or area's dimensions in 3D. The captured data can be used to create a digital model for inspection, reverse-engineering, CAD-to-part comparison, factory planning, or investigations for industries ranging from power, process and piping to forensics, surveying ,and historical preservation.

The Super Mobile Laser Scanner Kit includes:

  • A carbon-fiber tripod
  • New Wi-Fi/WLAN Scanner Connection so users can control scanning from their PDA, mobile phone, laptop, or other Internet-equipped devices, eliminating dependence on laptops
  • A scanner-based web server, which gives scanning control to as many as different users as needed - without additional license fees
  • The Laser Scanner Rucksack to simplify loading and carrying the Laser Scanner and tripod over long distances or into confined spaces.
