Geomagic and University of South Florida Partner in 3D Education Programs

Geomagic and the University of South Florida (USF) are partnering to deliver 3D imaging software for the University's training and educational programs.

USF's Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies (AIST) uses Geomagic Studio throughout its research work. Now their experience is being expanded out to benefit a broader audience within the University for students from diverse disciplines including engineering, mechanical design and art. AIST now hosts cross-departmental training and studies in learning and using Geomagic software as well as external training events. The aim of this is to introduce 3D digital data as a means to greater learning experiences, and new ways to educate students.

"USF is pioneering in using 3D data to deliver greater learning opportunities during classes, as well as using 3D printed models for artifacts in the classroom instead of using pictures," said Ping Fu, CEO, Geomagic. "This use of 3D delivers a new learning experience for all students, not just those with the means to travel to specific sites abroad. We are excited to help USF deliver new ways to enhance education, greater research insight using 3D, and artifacts digitally replicated for preservation and documentation."

The team at AIST uses Geomagic software extensively for its archeological research work across the world, including projects in Mexico, Guatemala, Egypt, Spain and other locations.
