Last month, the International Data Corporation (IDC) published a report titled “Worldwide and U.S. Research and Development/Product Engineering Services 2013-2017 Forecast.”

The report provides an in-depth look at the R&D and Product Engineering Services industries, including  target industries within the field, a situation overview, engineering services trends and a future outlook.

Overall, the study concluded that there will be fairly robust growth for the R&D and Product Engineering Services industries market.

“The R&D/product engineering outsourcing services market has crossed the chasm and is now a serious contender for a larger share of the technology product customers' R&D dollars. Engineering services providers need to speed up their investments and messaging to convince and convey benefits to customers," said Mukesh Dialani, research director, BPO and Engineering Services, IDC. "As technology product companies attempt to understand their end customers better, providers will need to invest in social, mobile, analytics and cloud technologies, and industry-specific engineering services to provide the innovation and insight that will feed current and future product development."
