IMSce for V5, which provides CNC controller emulation functionality within the CATIA V5 manufacturing environment, is the latest offering from IMS Software (Haverhill, MA).

CATIA V5 from Dassault Systemes (Paris, France) allows G-code validation without leaving the V5 environment; controller emulation capability with IMSce for V5 provides the machine motion, while checking for syntax and logic errors, and alerting the user when they occur.

Other CAM software will provide NC verification with material removal and, in some cases, machine simulation. Normally, this software checks only the toolpath generated by the software, not the post-processing, optimization, or hand-editing that happens between the CAM system and the machine. Controller emulation provides processing of machine-specific G- and M-code, allowing the integrated verification and simulation within V5 to check the actual data which will drive the machine, not just the toolpath as generated by the CAM system.

Information on IMSce for V5 is available at ims-software.com.
