NextEngine Teams with Rapidform

At SolidWorks World in New Orleans last week, NextEngine (Santa Monica,CA) introduced RapidWorks, a suite of tools that lets you take rawpoints from your NextEngine Desktop 3D Scanner and turn them intoidealized SolidWorks SLDPRT part files. At the same time, the companyalso introduced ScanStudio ART and ScanStudio PRO for designers andengineers.

RapidWorks leverages RapidformXOR 3D scanning software technology fromRapidform, Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA). After you turn your raw points intoidealized SolidWorks SLDPRT part files, the resultant output is a fullyparametric solid model with a true Feature Tree, according toNextEngine.

Although the high-end version of RapidformXOR normally costs about$20,000, the RapidWorks product for the NextEngine Scanner is pricedat  $2,495. "Our premium RapidformXOR product has massive pointcapacity and works with departmental 3D scanners. This new RapidWorksproduct will provide millions of input points and the same toolset …for NextEngine Scanner users," said Dr. Bae Rapidform's CEO in astatement released to the press.

NextEngine says that its ScanStudio ART is tailored for designers whowant to create fully healed watertight models for 3D printing andcomplex design or CGI tasks. It is a $495 upgrade of the ScanStudioCore, which is supplied with each NextEngine Scanner.

ScanStudio PRO offers engineers NURBS surfacing and automatic splineoutput from points. It features a comparison tool to analyzedifferences between as-built and CAD models. It costs $995.
