Softelec released VPindex V3, an indexing application for archiving scans and CAD drawings. VPindex automatically processes legacy drawings, scans, and 2D CAD files for capture, cleanup, formatting, and storage. The program’s OCR (optical character recognition) capabilities collect index information from the title blocks of the drawings. It can also be used to rename files according to their title block content. An optional Power OCR module improves recognition rates and supports additional languages such as Cyrillic and Greek.

VPindex is ODBC-compliant to facilitate data transfer. It supports most common CAD formats, including CGM, DGN, DWG, DXF, and HP/GL. Processing options such as scan cleanup, auto-rotation, and CAD-to-TIF conversion are arranged into customizable tasks. A setup wizard guides users through the steps of creating automatic workflows. VPindex V3 is compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista. It works with large-format scanners from most vendors as well as with any TWAIN device.
