Model shop LGM has developed an online service for users of sketching and conceptual modeling applications who want to create rapid prototypes of their designs. CADspan crates a new mesh that surrounds the original input data and from that produces an STL file. Customers upload their design files and submit them for processing. They can view a 3D preview of the STL model, then download it to their system for use with a 3D printer. LGM can also do the rapid prototyping as well.

Users can pay per file download ($92.50 each) or pay a monthly subscription fee. Several levels of subscription are offered. The $120-per-month basic version lets you submit five jobs per month, and support is via e-mail only. The $250-per-month advanced subscription provides the customer with more control over resurfacing parameters such as resolution and gap filling.

LGM also offers an online rapid modeling service aimed at architectural customers. RapidArch accepts inputs ranging from 3D CAD files to hand sketches and offers several different levels: basic, deluxe, and premium. LGM uses 3D printing technology to provide a quick turnaround time. Maximum model size is 10” x 14” x 6”. Based on 2D CAD input, a basic model costs $1,695, the deluxe model is $2,195, and the premium model is $2,495.
