Konica Minolta (Ramsey, NJ), the maker of the VIVID line of 3D laser scanners, has announced a new offer that combines rapidformXOR software with the VIVID 910 3D digitizer. VIVID's scan data is transformed into parametric CAD models directly in SolidWorks and other parametric CAD software.

"The combined software and digitizer allow parts to be reverse-engineered into a parametric model, with a full history tree, in a fraction of the time it used to take," notes Marty Chader, 3D Business unit manager for Konica Minolta Sensing.

Konica Minolta's laser digitizers scan 3D objects and export a polygonal mesh. rapidformXOR, software from INUS Technology (Seoul, Korea, and Sunnyvale, CA), converts the scan data into intelligent features within the CAD environment. Users can choose commands within rapidform to turn their 3D scans into parametric models that are automatically created in SolidWorks as native part files.

Konica Minolta is promoting a special offer in which the 3D scanning technology is available starting at $2,000 a month.
