Chameleon, a 3D haptic application, was launched by A1 Technologies at the end of last year. The company has now announced Version 2 of this 3D design package for creative development, which includes improvements to the 3D modeling software.

Chameleon combines interactive hardware, the Falcon haptic device, with intuitive 3D modeling software, Cloud9 from Anarkik3D. Cloud9 V2 is the latest version of the 3D sketch modeling software that has been enhanced with new features to allow easier and more fluid creation and visualization in 3D.

The key improvements that are available with Version 2 are:

  • A new interface
  • Improved stability
  • Object mirroring
  • Shortcut keys
  • Support for OBJ file format (with texture mapping import capability)
  • Flexible export capabilities
  • A configurable AUTOSAVE function
  • Unit setting (mm, cm and m)
  • Some Boolean operations (union, subtract and intersect two objects)
  • Scaling and dimensioning.

The haptic nature of Chameleon gives designers the ability to “touch and feel” the 3-dimensional qualities of a virtual object together with the freedom of movement in all directions to construct, interact with and manipulate their designs.
