ACCES I/O Products (San Diego, CA) released the latest addition to its line of USB/104 I/O modules — the Model USB-IDIO-16 ($329), which offers 16 individually optically isolated inputs and 16 fully protected solid state FET outputs capable of switching up to 2A each. It is fully compatible with both USB 1.1 and USB 2.0 ports and offers hotplug functionality for quick connect/disconnect whenever you need additional I/O on your USB port.

The circuit isolation makes the module suitable for control and instrumentation applications where high-voltage protection is required. Individual channel-to-channel isolation allows every channel to be physically and electrically separated from the others.

Other key features of the USB-IDIO-16 include polarity insensitive AC/DC inputs that accept up to 31VDC or AC RMS, jumper-selectable filtering per input channel for AC or voltage transients; plus, internal, removable screw terminal board for easy wiring.

USB/104 form-factor for OEM embedded applications min a small, (4” x 4” x 1.4”) rugged industrial enclosure. OEM version (board only) features PC/104 module size and mounting compatibility. Extended temperature and DIN rail mounting provisions. All required power drawn from USB port, no external power adapter required. Eight input/output version (USB-IDIO-8, $259)  available.

The USB-IDIO-16 was designed for rugged industrial environments or desks or testing stations. The board measures 3.550 x 3.775 in. and ships inside a steel powder-coated enclosure with an anti-skid bottom. It is supported for use in most operating systems and includes a free Linux (including Mac OS X) and Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000/XP/2003-compatible software package. This package contains sample programs and source code in Visual Basic, Delphi, C++ Builder,  and Visual C++ for Windows.

ACCES products are designed for use with PC/104, PCI, PCI-X, Low Profile PCI, EBX,  ETX, EPIC, USB, Ethernet and ISA, as well as distributed and wireless I/O.
