Alibre Inc. has announced the inclusion in Alibre Design Expert of a concept creation and surfacing design tool it calls Moment of Inspiration (MoI). MoI is designed to make product and concept design easy, fast, and accessible to more designers.

“Adding MoI opens up many new doors and opportunities for our customers to create new classes of products,” says J. Paul Grayson, CEO, Alibre. “When you look around you, many of the things that people touch or use on a daily basis have an aspect of ergonomics and visual richness. Optimal design of consumer-oriented products benefits greatly from the additional tools which MoI brings to the table.”

“It’s called Moment of Inspiration because the second you have your moment, your great idea, you want to capture it and get it on the screen in front of you and then build on the momentum of your creative process. MoI is simply the fastest and easiest way to do this on the market today,” says Max Freeman, vice president of Marketing, Alibre. “MoI is for product designers what SketchUp is for architects.”

The combination of Alibre Design Expert and MoI also provides a gateway for other 3D CAD programs, such as Solidworks, Inventor, and Pro/E (now Creo Elements/Pro), enabling their native CAD models to be brought into Blender, SketchUp, Maya and any other rendering or game development platform that supports OBJ files. SketchUp output (SKP) is also supported. Traditional mesh-based modelers have their place, but often you can design mechanical-looking components of a scene substantially faster in a 3D CAD system.
