Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMG) conference will move to Orlando in May.

With the COVID-19 pandemic continuing to expand unabated, many conference and event organizers have had to revamp their events well into 2021. The Additive Manufacturing Users Group (AMG) had initially planned to move forward with its annual conference in Chicago in March (the event was postponed in 2020), but the organization announced today that it has been forced to change both the date and location. The in-person conference will now take place in Orlando, FL, from May 2 – 6, 2021 at the Hilton Orlando.

“Our goal is to provide an in-person event, in a safe manner, to facilitate the exchange of information in the way that differentiates the AMUG Conference from all others,” said Carl Dekker, AMUG president. “The AMUG Board is committed to planning for an in-person event and will continue to monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and related government restrictions at the federal and local levels. The board has been developing alternate plans that will allow us to adapt to changes as developments occur that relate to COVID-19 and in-person events.” He continued, “Considering the current and projected circumstances, it was necessary to change the dates of the conference from March to May 2021 and to move the event to Orlando for a larger meeting.”

“The Hilton Orlando offers 249,000 sq. ft. of meeting space,” added Tom Sorovetz, AMUG event manager. “Even with social distancing protocols in place, this property can accommodate a full-scale AMUG Conference, and it also affords AMUG the opportunity to host outdoor activities.”

To ensure that the in-person event adheres to safety protocols related to COVID-19, AMUG is working with an industry consultant for guidance and advice on all necessary safety precautions pertaining to live conferences and events, the organization said in a release. Additionally, AMUG is working closely with the Hilton Orlando, state agencies and local officials.

Dekker added that over 70 sponsors and 100 exhibitors are supporting the 2021 AMUG Conference by applying their 2020 commitments to the coming year. As a socially distanced conference plan takes shape, AMUG will determine the number of openings for companies to participate. As a result, all new sponsors and exhibitors are being placed on a waitlist.

According to AMUG, supporting actions and supplementary programs are proceeding as usual. AMUG has an open 'call-for-speakers,' and its Agenda Committee is actively selecting individuals for the available speaking slots. The organization's scholarship program is open for candidate submissions. And the users group is now accepting nominations for its prestigious DINO (Distinguished INnovator Operator) Award.

AMUG will provide a detailed FAQ regarding the live event and safety guidelines for the conference upon opening registration.Conference registration has been temporarily paused and will reopen on January 6, 2021. The Hilton has also provided information online about its own safety guidelines.
