ANSYS, Inc. (Southpointe, PA) has joined with RoboBAT(Waltham, MA), a supplier of analytical and CAD software solutions for structural engineers, to integrate and streamline productdevelopment processes. The integration of RoboBAT’s Engineering SystemOpen Platform (ESOP) software with ANSYS Workbench gives users accessto more than 100 engineering applications as well as the ability towrite their own modules, either stand-alone or integrated with ANSYSWorkbench models.

“There is no wasted data translation time from one file format toanother, and the file management helps keep project data organized,“said Barry Christenson of ANSYS.

Through ESOP for Workbench, users can assess structures quickly andeasily. They have a central location where they can conductcalculations and analyses in the pre-design phase, access databases ofreference materials, and code-check various structures againstinternational standards. For example, engineers in the nuclear industrycan analyze stress on a structure design, and then conduct a code checkof a welding to ensure it meets the code of the particular country inwhich it is being built before creating a sketch in any CAD program.

The integration also offers a convenient way for engineers to managetheir projects since they are able to compile all information and tracktheir progress on a project in one location. Because ESOP is anExcel-based program, the technology is also easy to use.
