Aras has become a founding member of the 3D PDF Consortium, a global initiative dedicated to the promotion, development and adoption of 3D PDF as an open standard for visualization, collaboration, data exchange and the long-term archiving of 3D data. According to the company, Aras supports 3D PDF for its potential as a "truly open, ubiquitous format that is free of vendor restrictions and limitations."

The Consortium organization is focused on the ongoing development of the ecosystem of industry-specific companies and end-users, international standards organizations, governmental organizations, software vendors, systems integrators, and developers with a vested interest in seeing 3D PDF and the PRC data format continue to be developed as an open standard for visualization, collaboration, data exchange, and the long term archiving and retrieval of engineering, manufacturing, AEC/BIM, geospatial, and scientific, cultural and historical information.

We take an open approach to the market and believe that 3D PDF will become a pervasive standard moving forward so were proud to be in on the ground floor, said Peter Schroer, President of Aras. 3D PDF is the only neutral visualization format that can hold text, binary / scan data, 2D and 3D data, and still be readable 99 years from now, which is why U.S. government and military programs are standardizing on it and why we support the mission of the 3D PDF Consortium.
