Atlanta Exhibition to Spotlight Problem-Solving Designs

Designers play a key role in solving our collective societal problems, from coming up with new ways to generate power to creating practical devices for purifying drinking water. The Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA) plans to spotlight these problem-solving designs in an upcoming exhibition, and is asking companies and designers in the Southeastern U.S. to contribute.

According to MODA, the "Revolution by Design: Innovating for a Better World" exhibition will run from May 25 to Aug. 3, 2014. The program will showcase how designers, architects, social entrepreneurs, students, and community organizations in the South are "using design methodologies to tackle a wide-range of real-world challenges, from the purification of water to the provision of shelter for the homeless and from the re-thinking of transportation systems to the development of technologies that increase mobility."

Interested organizations should submit their entries by Jan. 31, 2014. The exhibit is open to contributions from organizations in Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Kentucky.

If you happen to be in Atlanta between Feb. 23 and May 11, 2014, the museum has another interesting exhibition in the works, "Hidden Heroes: The Genius of Everyday Things," that highlights the stories behind the design of common objects like paper clips and pencils.
