Advanced ABEx 2020 system provides maximum interconnect capacity and enables global compute and data services to be extended over thousands of miles, says the company.

Bay Microsystems, Inc. (San Jose,  CA), which is involved in the design and development of high performance communications solutions, will be showcasing its ABEx Family of Multiservice Transport Gateways next week at SC08 in Austin, Texas. Bay will be demonstrating the ABEx 2020 and its ability to extend InfiniBand fabrics over an IP network through the use of Pseudowires.

Pseudowires provide a point-to-point “transparent wire” in which the native InfiniBand service can be transported over a Packet Switched Network (PSN). This capability allows high performance and technical computing users to share compute and data services over very long distances by taking advantage of traffic engineering to maintain bandwidth guarantees using Quality-of-Service (QoS) over IP networks. This technology demonstration opens the door to a broad range of applications associated with high performance/cloud computing, wide area virtualization, clustered databases and financial services.

Built around Bay Microsystems’ innovative network processor and traffic management integrated circuit (IC) technology, the ABEx 2020 enables administrators to overcome distance limitations of InfiniBand allowing them to share network and storage services outside the data center. The ABEx 2020 incorporates carrier-class InfiniBand services allowing InfiniBand to be extended to any point on the globe, across either optical transport or packet switched networks in a reliable manner at full line rate performance.

Bay Microsystems will also be providing host connectivity for the SCinet network at SC08, which provides cutting-edge connectivity for demanding applications and demonstrations on the SC08 show floor. Bay’s ABEx 2020 will provide InfiniBand connectivity for most of the multimedia sessions hosted by SCinet including the Music Session, Music Booth Lobby and the Music Address Ballroom.
