Bricsys Announces Version 8 of Bricsys LGS 2D and 3D Component Technology

Constraint solvers allow developers to solve geometric and dimensional constraints.

Bricsys released V8 of the Bricsys LGS component technology, a set of computational software libraries used by developers of CAD, CAM, CAE applications for implementation of geometric and dimensional constraint support.

Originally acquired from LEDAS, improvement of the LGS 2D and 3D component technology is now led by the Bricsys development team in Novosibirsk, Russia. The technology is available for integration by CAD/CAM/CAE software developers worldwide, and has been embedded in the BricsCAD software itself since V12.

To simplify development and support, Bricsys has unified the release cycles of LGS 2D and 3D, and now uses the same version number for both components. The latest release, version 8.0, incorporates improvements in performance, solvability and naturalness of solutions. The 2D version includes better diagnostics for geometric objects and constraints, a more natural solution for where a line is tangent to a spline at its endpoint, and improved auto-constraining functionality for segments (available as part of the LGS Profiles extension module).

LGS 3D V8.0 delivers several improvements in the pattern-based problem decomposition methods, which are essential for natural behavior of the solver. In particular, cases with tangency constraints between cylinders, spheres, and planes are now solved more naturally. V8 also solves several problems submitted as support requests by application development customers.

“Constraints became a de facto standard for CAD applications a long time ago,” said Dmitry Ushakov, CEO Bricsys Technologies Russia. “While we guarantee the high quality of our LGS solvers for traditional applications, including parametric drawing/sketching in 2D and assembly design/kinematic simulation in 3D, our main focus is now on a new and promising application of constraints ” direct modeling. With variational direct modeling users can benefit from the best of two worlds: the power of parametric history-based modeling and the freedom of direct modeling. LGS solvers can efficiently work in combination with any solid modeling kernel available on the component market.”
