Canon Announces Pair of Printers

Canon U.S.A. (Chicago, IL) announced two new wide-format printers for CAD, GIS, and general office printing.

Canon imagePROGRAF iPF710 produces 36-inch-wide prints.

The imagePROGRAF iPF710 ($3,995) and iPF610 ($2,295), due for release later this year, printers feature Canon’s five-color dye/pigment reactive ink system designed to produce black lines and texts that resist rubbing, moisture, and bleeding of intersecting lines. This results in sharp lines—as thin as 0.02mm—and high-density black for CAD line drawings.

The new imagePROGRAF models also use Canon’s L-COA image processor to instantly interpret advanced image algorithms to accelerate print speeds. The combination of the L-COA image processor and reactive ink technology help to rapidly produce crisp and clear text and precise, intricately detailed line drawing while retaining line accuracy at ±0.1%**.

The iPF610 can produce a full-color D-sized print in 31 seconds on plain paper in fast mode. The iPF710 can print full-color E-sized output in 55 seconds on plain paper in fast mode.

The iPF710 handles 36-inch meda, and the iPF610 handles 24-inch media. Both support HPGL/2 and HP-RTL page description languages and come with the AutoCAD imagePROGRAF HDI Driver and imagePROGRAF Printer Driver 2007. The drivers are compatible with Windows and Macintosh operating systems.

The Free Layout for Windows (Auto Layout for Mac) feature in the printer driver enables users to nest several smaller drawings or documents on a larger sheet, saving paper and effort to lay them out manually. Other features include quiet operation and a large illuminated LCD control panel with instruction illustrations.

Canon imagePROGRAF iPF710 provides a choice of four different media-handling systems.

The five-color dye/pigment reactive ink system includes four colorfast dye inks (black, cyan, magenta, yellow) and a pigment-based matte black ink for optimized print image quality on more than 25 types of media, including plain bond paper, coated paper, glossy photo paper, and film.

The two models come with 90mL ink tanks for each of the five inks and can accommodate high-capacity 130 mL replacement ink tanks. With 15,360 individual ink nozzles, the printers can produce ink droplets as small as 4 picoliters.
