When Isay virtualization, most immediately think of VMware, Inc. of Palo Alto, CA. I used to do the same thing until I started doing moreresearch. It turns out there’s a host of companies demonstrating leadership invirtualization.

When it comes to holistic strategies, these days I’mparticularly impressed with IBM, Sun, and now Citrix Systems, Inc. of FortLauderdale, FL. Citrix has long been a leader in what canperhaps be described as virtualization – terminal or thin client computing butwith the ability to run rich applications. Citrix always stays a step ahead ofMicrosoft in that arena, and with the acquisition of XenSource, Inc., hopes todo the same thing in other areas of virtualization.

XenSource has a terrificmultiplatform story and great relationships with IBM, Sun, and the Linuxcommunity. These days, having open source fans should never be discounted.

Atthe close of its XenSource deal, Citrix rolled out a bevy of announcements allaimed at promoting its end-to-end strategy.

At its recent Citrix ForumConference in Las Vegas, the company trotted out new server, application anddesktop virtualization products.
